Very helpful. Almost 7 years ago at 25 y.o. I had a severe road accident and my T6-T7 were fractured and loss of height of 70% and 40%. I wore a back brace during 3 months. Since then I have lots of upper back, shoulder and neck pain. The insurance told me recently that they don't understand why I have pain...

I found this a very useful video as I just was diagnosed with a T12 wedge fracture and the subjects you discussed were exactly those my doctor discussed with me eg DEXA scan, physio, and kyphoplasty. One of the things you clarified for me was my decrease in hunger and why my abdomen suddenly was distended. I noticed these two issues but didnt realise they were relatèd to the fracture. It occurred to me that the life expectancy charts you showed about survival rates over time were somewhat distorted by the fact that many patients in those surveys were in their late 70s or 80s which themselves means their long term survival rates were to some level age related though I'm not questioning the relative advantages of certain procedures. Thank you for the clarity of your explanations

Not for me. Any surgery holds great risks, this one is like boys playing with toys, sorry doctors but the less our bodies are sliced and diced the better. Give pain patients back our proper dosages of opiates which are safe and effective, easy and used responsibly as most pain patients do, this is the best way. Dont muck around with us. Dont reinvent the wheel.Just repeal the cruel, punitive CDC guidelines and we can function easily again. From a non addict, dependent on pain relief from opiates and grateful for them, in Australia where we grow tons of opium poppies but are experiencing shortages thanks to more punitive rules by the DEA.

Man. I'm 62, diagnosed with very severe osteoporosis 10 months ago, after my husband decided my repeated injuries to my back had to be related to bone density. I tried to find out what was happening, told my doctor, but evidently osteoporosis is not on the radar before age 65. Now I have at least three confirmed fractures, two in my upper back, one just below the waist. I'm pretty sure I got another one this summer, got an x-ray right away, but they could see nothing, and the pain was internal; I can still feel it (10 weeks later) but not when someone presses on my spine. Still, I know what they feel like now, but oh well, apparently the idea around here is to ignore them and hope I don't complain too much. I've lost three inches in height, my rib cage is impacted somehow now, and it's definitely impacting my ability to work (I'm a hairdresser--I have a suspicion the work caused the fractures at T 6 and 7, but no one will affirm this,) because holding my arms in front of me for more than 5 minutes results in pain that goes from achy to screaming muscles and nerves by the end of a 4 hour shift. And, people say my problem is my back muscles are weak--which they surely are, in some ways--but in other ways, I know my muscles are working like crazy. I don't know what's going to happen to me but my sense is it's going to take not being able to walk before our medical system will offer more than physical therapy.

Amazing, thank you for this! Before my accident a year ago- I was very active, strong, could lift/carry 50lbs easy. After my accident, my T-11 split like a cookie, refused to heal- now I face kyphoplasty. I am a little hesitant. At 60, I have no health issues, no daily meds other than pain meds and bone vitamins. My gut health is great, blood pressure a little high, as active as I can be! I live with daily pain, I pray this is the answer...

This is a very invasive procedure..anyone thinking of doing this should have more than seconds thoughts. Not a CURE.the body changes over time and this device is stuck in you can break..cause..more unwanted pain than originally the first place.Ask a surgeon what is good of course he wants you to do this..be leary of doing this..trust your instinct. Beware..very beware !!!!! A high risk venture.Desparate man will do desperate measures.beware.If it to good to be true run in the other direction.
